Default Electronic cam timer?

Hi All,
I am involved in the development of a machine for washing small tanks, most similar units I have seen use a mechanical cam timer to control the wash sequence but I was wondering if there is an electronically programmable device available which would do the same job as the cam timer but allow easy changes to time parameters through software. I have looked at a number of the mini plc's available but they seem to be offering many functions which this device doesnt need as the only input required is a signal to start the cycle. If you know of any device which would be suitable for this application I would be grateful.

Thanks

There are many. How many channels what time period. have you considered a small PLC like a Siemens Logo or equivalent.
Most of the manufacturers make or badge one, with it you could build in patterns for several applications
