Sustainable energy

Hi My friends and I were discussing current ways of saving energy and we came up with a theory that you could use the electricity generated by loads of treadmills , exercise bikes etc in a large gym to help heat and power the gym. we are all mechanical engineers and not clued up on electrics, just wondered if it was feasable thats all. Thanks for reading.
