Default BOOTP - socket connect problem

I tried to connect to a programmed control logix L 63 controller through ethernet module 1756 ENBT/A but i was not able to connect. The ethernet module display scrolls the IP address but if try to connect with the controller by that IP address i am not able to connect, ( i tried by connecting directly to controller and also through a switch). So I tried to assign IP using BOOTP server, then i got the error as socket connect error.
I used a UTP cat5e straight cable Is ther anything wrong with this type of cable or else should I use a cross cable.

Please help
