RS Linx / RSLogix Ethernet timeout...

Does anybody know how to change the timeout when you go to who-active using ethernet drivers. If your connected to the wrong plc or have been using a different network for connection then first it takes 30-40 seconds before it realises the PLC is not reachable at that address. A simple ping should give it that info in milliseconds. Is there anywhere this timeout can be changed? If not, why does it take that long to realise its not there!
